"Welcome" was released by surprise on June 21, 2015, information leaking on LPLive ahead of its release. Following the months before its release, on February 18, 2015, the Fort Minor social media accounts were blacked out (and in the case of their Instagram, newly created). The account began tweeting Mike Shinoda on June 18, 2015, tweeting, "Hello @mikeshinoda."[1] Mike interacted with the Twitter account and the two went back and forth for a few days, with Fort Minor even tweeting a snippet of "Welcome" out before Mike finally submitted and let Fort Minor "win", posting an image of the single cover on his Instagram.[2][3] The song was released later that day, available to download for free on Fort Minor's website.

"Welcome" debuted when Mike performed it solo on Conan, live on TV. The song was made available just the day before, the video being released that day. Mike wore his own Fort Minor T-shirt at this show - a rare move from him. Before the performance, Mike said that fans could download the song for free at fortminor.com, welcoming "all the outsiders" and "all the underdogs" to go grab it. At full Fort Minor shows, "Welcome" was often used as the encore opener, or as the second-to-last song of the set. It (along with "Remember The Name") was not performed at Fort Minor's set at Rock im Sektor 2015 because Mike would perform it later that night with Linkin Park.

At its third week, the single reached the No. 20 spot. It eventually peaked at number two on the chart at its fifteenth week. The single spent forty-six weeks on the chart.[19] In Belgium, the song peaked at number five and charted for six weeks.[20] In Finland, the song debuted at No. 8 on the chart, but dropped to No. 15 at the following week, before falling off the chart.[21] In the Netherlands, the song debuted at Dutch Top 40 chart at number thirty-three.[22] In its second charting week, the song boosted up to number twenty-four, and went to number thirteen at its third week.[22] The song reached its peak at number ten on its fourth week.[22] The song spent fourteen weeks on the chart.[22] In New Zealand, the song debuted on the New Zealand Singles Chart at No. 24 on April 24, 2006, and peaked at No. 14 the following week.[23] The song spent seven weeks before falling off the top 40.[23] In France, the song debuted and peaked at number twenty-four on October 28, 2006.[24] The song spent ten weeks in the chart.[24] In Austria, the song debuted at No. 43 in the week of April 28, 2006, rising to the top 40 in its second week at No. 34.[25] In its fourth week, "Where'd You Go" peaked at No. 29.[25]
